Sibling rivalries, eh? For those who grew up with them, we’re all too familiar with it, aren’t we? Arguments between them can last from a day over eating the last cupcake, or longer if it’s something far bigger, especially when you’re famous. Just imagine?
As for Liam and Noel Gallagher of the famous band Oasis, the feud has been going on for 20 years, and it’s not getting any better. The relationship has become broken, that even that their mother, Peggy, has given up on trying to reunite the pair, once and for all.
The 73-year-old said she is “past caring” trying to get her sons to make up, and can’t even get them to be in the same room for Christmas or any other events. Even just being civil with each other has gone right out the window, seemingly.
It has been 20 years since the war began between the brothers, and it’s now been 10 years since they stopped talking to each other.
Liam, 44, commented: “She is done with it. She is like, ‘F*** yous’. Smash each other’s heads in for all I care. I am sick of it’. It has been 20 years now. She is done with it and she has given up.”
Peggy has also refused to move home in order to live closer to her sons in London, preferring to live in peace in her home in Burnage, Manchester, and honestly who can blame her? Feuding sons, it’s enough to make a mother give up, after a while.
“She had three jobs. She’s still grafting today. She’s a tough woman, and she still lives in the same house” Liam continued.
“I’m like , ‘Come on. You’ve got to move from here.’ But she’s like, ‘I am not moving from nowhere. She is not interested in any of this now. She is like, ‘You get on with your mad, crazy whatever life.’ Her feet are cemented to the ground.”
Last year, Peggy was interviewed in Supersonic, a documentary film about the brothers’ lives.
“I think there was that bit of jealousy. Noel was beautiful as a baby and then Liam comes along – it takes the limelight off you” Peggy stated in the interview. “I was glad they were in a band together. I wouldn’t have wanted Liam in a band without Noel. But it all happened too quick”.
Unfortunately, for Oasis fans, this means that an Oasis reunion is very unlikely, if not impossible by this point. Twenty years is a hell of a long time for a feud to continue, and by this point it’ll be by some miracle if they’re able to stay in the same room together, let alone on stage. There’s been far too much drama between the two since the beginning, and it would take a lot of making up for them to even consider reuniting again. It could happen someday, but considering their own mother couldn’t help them, don’t hold your hopes up too much.
