The 27 year old pop queen Taylor Swift has dropped the first single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ from her new album Reputation and it is definitely beating Perry’s ‘Swish Swish’ to a pulp. Tay-Tay has been through a lot these past few years and she’s ready to retaliate, respectively. From the DJ groping trial, to the Kayne West and Katy Perry feuds, it all seems to have driven a change in her song writing. So, is this the start of a new darker Taylor Swift? Let’s hope so, as you can only be too nice for too long.
‘Look What You Made Me Do’ includes many direct lyrics aimed at some of her suspected haters (applause & break out the Haterade). The chorus almost sends you into a trance and its top quality pop music, throughout. Many fans have already made connections between Taylor’s song lyrics to her celebrity spats. For example, right at the start, Taylor sings: “I don’t like your little games/Don’t like your tilted stage.”
Kayne West’s Saint Pablo tour showcased a floating stage above the crowd which tilted. Subtle! Nice one, Taylor!
The song continues: “The role to made me play/Of the fool/No, I don’t like you”. Now this we could blame Kim Kardashian West for. She leaked the phone call between Taylor and Kayne about her agreeing for him to feature her in his song ‘Famous’. That definitely made her look like a fool. Taylor claims Kayne did not agree to being referred to as “this b*tch” and also promised her to hear the song beforehand. She hit back at the couple saying, “you don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called that b*tch in front of the entire world”. Is this new single “Look What You Made Me Do” her revenge song? We think so and it’s clear that Kanye often acts like a “lil ____” (sometimes), so it’s sort of funny that he plays these catty games with Taylor, isn’t it?
Other lyrics include: “I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined.” I would be worried if I was you, Kimye. It looks like there is a new Regina George in town. The catchy yet fantastically creepy-ish song goes on about Taylor not even trusting herself. “I don’t trust me/ And nobody trusts me/ I’ll be the actress/ Starring in your bad dreams.”
That doesn’t sound like the sweet and innocent country singer we once knew. But perhaps the most worrying lyric of all is the featured phone call where Taylor says “I’m sorry the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, because she’s dead!” Swifties everywhere have gone into overdrive in jubilation. Has Taylor gone mad? Will she kill someone? Only symbolically, of course! Let’s see her hot new video for the song ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, which only dropped some hours ago.
That hot music video puts Katy Perry’s ‘Swish Swish‘ music video to shame in every way possible and here’s a new contender for music video of the year, all be it, next year or during a next awards ceremony. Yes, whilst Katy Perry was making a fool of herself, presenting last nights’ VMAs, Swift dropped her new music video, eclipsing Katy Perry once again. The music video curiously also features a car crash, perhaps in reference to someone’s car crash career (take a guess). Katy Perry, perhaps?
Before the release of her first single since 1989, Taylor teased her upcoming album Reputation with a short teaser video of a snake on Twitter. As well as confusing and probably scaring fans after months of her social media silence, people were quick to link the video to the snake emoji Kim Kardashian and their trolls spammed Taylor with during the whole Kimye feud. Is the snake Kayne, or Kim or even Taylor herself?
Another celebrity feud the song may refer to is Taylor’s long running spat with Katy Perry. Fans reckon the lyric “locked me out and threw a feast” is reference to Katy’s single Bon Appetit. Katy Perry’s other waning single ‘Swish Swish’ is also rumoured to be about Taylor. Swish and Swift? Too close to be a coincidence right? Addressing the feud, Katy tells James Cordon “she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it. I tried to talk to her about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me.” Was Taylor conjuring up a revenge song instead? One thing is for sure… “do not f**k with Taylor Swift.” We cannot wait to hear the rest of the album!
Do you think Taylor is gunning for Kimye and Katy Perry in her new single? Make your verdict and watch the lyric video for ‘Look What You Made Me Do” in all its glory, even without her new music video released, this animated lyrics video from Taylor beat Katy Perry’s big budget ‘Swish Swish’ video fiasco. Now you can enjoy both of Taylor Swift’s videos right here, spread the word!
